The morning here is bright. The sky is clear. The air is a little crisp, but I can still smell the fragrance of a early Spring-like day. And just before the I saw the shinning of the sun, while the sky was already light blue, there was the half moon shinning as well. I am always amazed at this sight, not something I see every day. Seems atmospheric conditions have to be just right, as well as astronomic conditions.
When I see the moon in the day sky I am often reminded of the very first time I saw it. I was a boy, almost a teenager when it happen. I have a strong memory of how it shook my paradigm. After all, the sun shines in the day and the moon shines in the night, right? Well, apparently, not always. I remember wondering how this could be. After all, everything I had believed up to that moment, stories I read and things I had been told by my parents, and things I had learned in school never suggested this could be happening, yet there the moon was, undeniably shining in the day. I have seen the moon many times since, in all of the phases we can see it, from full to sliver. I continue to be amazed.
My perception of my world changed that day. What I thought I knew to be true wasn't, and what I thought could never happen was happening. My universe didn't fall apart that day, it just expanded beyond my expectations. So here are some of my reflections about the moon shinning in the day.
There are all kinds of parables here that can speak to us and help us understand how God works in and through our lives, but I will leave those meditations up to my readers, as they may be intensely personal and apply to specific situations. As for me, I am glad I saw the moon today, so I can be reminded that we can't box God into our own understanding of how we think things are or should be. And we can't pull out of our sky what we don't believe should be there if God put it there.
