Weather?

A common phrase "Under the Weather" came to mind today.  Not that I am in the classic sense of this statement not feeling good, but as a result of hearing about a weather forecaster that said this is gong to be a miserable week because of the weather.  What does the weather have to do with how we feel?   Apparently, in some folks eyes, a lot.   Why do we talk about the weather so much?  Most of us are not farmers, or in any meaningful way dependent on the weather for our livelihood and the weather actually seldom prevents us from doing what we need to do, or planning out our days.  I know there are traveling concerns in the winter, and picnic concerns in the summer, but the way we live these days for the most part has us sheltered from the weather.  So why do we talk about the weather so much?  Some would say it is a safe topic that we all know something about.  Some of us (like me) are a bit of a hobbyist when it comes to the weather.  I must confess I check it every day, and depending on what is forecasted, more than once a day.  And how did this phrase "Under the Weather" get to mean that we are not feeling good?  We never hear anyone say, "I am above the weather", or "on top of the weather" when we are feeling good.

So what I was thinking was this:  Why should we ever be under any kind of weather, whether natural or spiritual to the extent that it influences our days in negative ways, when the Lord has called us to change spiritual atmospheres, declared to us that we are not subject to the beggarly elements, that our life comes from His within us, and not from this world, and that we are positioned above and not beneath the influences of atmospheres, whether physical or spiritual?   There are some choices that can be made, some choices in what we believe and what we accept or don't accept as influencing our lives, and we ought to make some wise choices not to let anything as mundane as the weather to influence our state of well being.

So today it is snowing, this evening it will be raining, and so on and so forth for the next few days here in the NE.  The weather man says it that our days will be miserable, but I believe these are great days and good days and days made for the glory of the Lord.  The spiritual atmosphere we live with needs to be established by Him who sits on the throne, high and lifted up above all else in heaven and in earth.

Lets not wait for a beautiful day to have a beautiful day!  This is the day the Lord has made for His glory and for His praise and we choose to be glad and rejoice in it.
