What's Up with the Birds?

The song birds have been singing like spring is here.  But a quick glance outside reveals snow and ice still covers the grounds.  So what are they singing about?  We even had a male bird dancing on our railing and singing all his love songs to a female who was following him along.  Funny thing was, they were knocking off snow along the way, and it seemed so out of time.  However, something is up.  Spring is on the way, even if it seems betrayed at the present moment.  It snowed last night again and it is 26 degrees out. Looks pretty, but it is not spring.  So what's up with the birds?  Are they confused?

Song birds seem to have the job of waking things up.  They certainly have waken me up plenty of times.  They start new days with top volume delight.  And now I observe they are starting spring with the same gusto.  Probably more accurately, they seem to be part of God's creation that announces certain things before they actually happen.  Before the actual dawn of a new day their proclamation can be heard.  And before the winter loses its grip, they are delighted to sing like it already has.  My heart is glad for them.

I see applications here in how the kingdom of heaven works in our lives.

  1. God says those things that are not as though they were
  2. His Word is often a declaration of what our future in Him looks like, even though it doesn't look that way now
  3. Prophecy is often a song of a new day
  4. Prophetic people see things before they actually come to pass, and are forerunners of a new day
  5. New things must be declared before they can come to pass
  6. We can start acting like what we believe the new day is before the new day arrives
  7. Singing the song of the Lord wakes up our faith, refreshes our souls, and prepares our hearts for new things.

So come on birds, sing your songs.  Spring is soon to come!
