Groggy?

More times than not, I wake up groggy.  I am sure I am not the only one.  It takes me a while to get going.  Winter is worse than summer.  I seem to have a biological alarm clock keyed to the first early dawn light, so getting up before then is extra hard.  That is one of the reasons I like the summer.  The light clock goes off much earlier, and after it does I can't sleep.  Not that I am totally awake by any means, but the light definitely helps.  And it gives me a good jump on the day. This hasn't always been the case.  I use to be able to sleep in past the dawn event, but no more.  Must have something to do with maturing.

Anyway, the dawning of a new day always comes with light.  I am so glad that it doesn't flash on like a light switch turns on a bright light, but it graciously increases until there is no doubt that it is a new day.

This grace of God works in our lives like this when He brings us to a new day.  The dawning of a new day always comes with increase light that eventually overtakes the darkness of the night.  An old day gives way to a new one.  Once this starts, it is only a matter of time before the brightness of the day is in full sway.  First there is that awareness that things are about to change, the first twilight, the first revelation, the first seed thought.  Sometimes this comes through to us while we are sleeping in the comfort of what already is.  Sometimes this comes after a long restless night of no rest when we are crying out for the dawn of a new day.  Some how we become aware that a new day is dawning.  And if we are prone to miss this process, God can graciously set off an alarm that alerts us that it is time to get up anyway, because a new day is starting.  Actually, I would rather wake up to the light, or by the gentle wake up nudge of the Holy Spirit than to an alarm any day.

OK, back to my groggy start to morning.  I can understand it is a new day, but it takes me a while to get with it. Once again, I am sure I am not alone in this.  That is why we do things first to help us wake up.  We all have some kind of morning routine for this very purpose.  When we are moving into a new day in the kingdom of God, there are things we can do on purpose to help us fully wake up and associate ourselves with the new day as well.  Here are some of them.

  • Praise the Lord for the new day
  • Believe it is going to be a good day
  • Rehearse the promises of the Lord about the new day
  • Pray for further understanding about how to walk in the new day
  • Read the Word of God and let Him instruct us in the ways of the new day
  • Exercise our faith, get our spiritual life blood, heart and muscles working
  • Press through the groggy beginning and let the power of the Holy Spirit give life for the new day.

So, if we are being presented with a new day in any area of our lives, lets rise up and meet this new day, letting the light of the dawning of it grow brighter and brighter, and our expectations of God things increase more and more.  We may start out groggy, but we don't have to stay that way.  God brought it to us on purpose, and He will help us walk in it.  This is the day the Lord has made;  I will be glad and rejoice in it.
