So I was looking at one of my house plants yesterday, and it was drooping, leaves hanging over, stems bent down...not the way it normally appears at all. Then I remembered: It has been a while since I watered that plant. Even though it has grown up in some wonderful ways, its previous growth was not able to sustain it in its present condition. So it was drooping. The stems which normally are able to uphold the large leaves were not strong enough. Some water and a few hours revived the plant.
So then I began to think about our lives. Are we drooping, loosing our strength, walking through life with our head hanging down? It can happen to any of us at any time if we don't access the waters of life the Lord has provided for us. We need the water of the Word and the rain of the Holy Spirit in our lives to stay fresh and vital, growing and fruitful. We need to draw water out of the wells of salvation with in us with joyful expectation that we will be fresh and crisp. If the amount of time spent in prayer, or in the Word, or in direct communion with the Holy Spirit is not enough to sustain our former growth, we can fix it easily enough. Interesting, isn't it, that just because we had great growth in the past doesn't mean that this growth we had will sustain us now if don't have enough water flowing to our roots now. And one other observation. It may take a while for the water to actually take effect, so lets not be discouraged in well doing, for we will benefit in due time if we don't quit
Stay well watered, and we will stand up straight and tall and show forth the goodness of the Lord in the land we are planted in.
Psalm 1:2,3 ...his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree panted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.
