Psalm 47:4 He will choose our inheritance for us,
The excellence of Jacob whom He loves.
God has reserved an inheritance for every believer, not based on our own worth, but based on His worth. He chooses what that inheritance is, reveals it to us, and disburses it as He sees fit.
Listen, my beloved brethren: Has God not chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him? (James 2:5)
The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ...
(Romans 8:16-17)
Our inheritance in Christ Jesus includes the fullness of all His love and goodness towards us. Every promise given is given to be fulfilled. Every Blessing is to be received. The hope of eternal life and riches are secured. There is no lack, no failing, and no inability on God's part to grant us this inheritance. It was paid for and secured through the blood of Jesus Christ on the cross.
Inheritances are received through a will or testament after the death of the benefactor. It is processed through the executer of the will. In our case as Christians, it is through the death of our benefactor, Jesus Christ that the will has come into effect, and it is through His life that the will is distributed and enforced.
For where there is a testament, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. ?For a testament is in force after men are dead, since it has no power at all while the testator lives. (Hebrews 9:16-17) and ...Jesus the Mediator of the new testament... (Hebrews 12:24)
Knowing we are heirs of all that Jesus died for is a powerful and life-giving reality. Accordingly, we live entirely different lives as heirs than we do as orphans. It shapes our world view and our life bearing into men and women of destiny. The more we participate with this pattern of life, the more abounding our lives become in every endeavor.
Walking in our inheritance sets our life style, our expectations, and encourages us to make good plans because we understand the pattern of God's best for us. We have been given every advantage through inheritance in Christ Jesus to succeed and prosper in all that we are called to do and called to be.
There are two main sources of understanding what our inheritance is: The Word of God and the Spirit of God. The Word of God is a clear and abundant source of revelation concerning the will of God for our lives. The Spirit of God leads and guides us into all truth, and declares to us our specific estates and spheres of influence, our gifts and callings according to the will of God. As we abound in the knowledge of God's will, and delight to pattern all of our life after it, we will prosper in all things concerning His will for our lives. This is abundant living at its finest.
Several things that will help us partake of the pattern of the will of God for our lives
Believe - Believe first of all that you are an heir, and secondly that your inheritance is reserved for you in Christ Jesus according to the will of God.
Pray - Ask God for your inheritance, all of it. Don't let it sit in the bank of heaven when it belongs in the treasure chest of your own heart.
Obey - The will has instructions that tend to life. Do whatever the will says, and the provisions of the will become yours.
Fight - Fight the good fight of faith, hold fast to the promises even when you are suffering things contrary to them.
Sacrifice - Do what it takes to secure your inheritance, even when it seems to cost you everything. What you will gain is exceedingly greater than what you give up.
Endure - It takes time to be conformed to the purpose and will of God; no quick fixes here. It is through a life time of faith and faithfulness that we see the fullness of our inheritance secured. Just don't give up!
Occupy - Once you receive an aspect of your inheritance, learn to live worthy of it. Determine not to return to your former ways of doing things or thinking.
Glorify God - All glory belongs to the Lord, we give Him praise and honor Him through the inheritance He has given to us.
