Lessons from a Woodpecker

The last few days have been filled with happy bird sounds.  There are many of them.  It is Spring and warm.  And I don't need to tell you about the birds and the bees, but it is happening with a zeal around our Preston home.  Among these sounds of enthusiasm is one of the more persistent sounds.  The drumming of a woodpecker on a snag not far from our back door.  Everyday, very fast tok tok tok tok tok tok tok.  And it is loud.  This bird is not large, but he is acting like he is large.  I am actually enjoying his drumming.  He is full of life.

Floods

So the last couple of days have been historic days in the weather record books for the NE.  On average 7 inches of rain fell here and around about in 48 hours.  More rain than needed meant overflowing river banks, basement flooding, streams looking like raging rivers and did I say basement floodings?  We went to the aid of some friends that live on the waterfront of a small lake.  The lake was higher than the basement level, so water was coming in abundantly.  Pumps and buckets just to keep the water from getting deeper.  Some folks lost much more, as rivers flooded above window levels.

Offline

So we are so dependent on being online with what we do that last night when we couldn't get online it was disorientating.  Not only was I concerned as to why this happened at our home office here in CT, but I couldn't check in to my informational relational flows online.   When I awoke this morning, one of the first things I did (after good morning Lord) was to see if we were back online.  Nope.  It was then I really felt the result of being disconnected and out of touch and unable to communicate in a very familiar way.  I admit that I discovered that I am dependent on

The Brown Box

Yesterday I had a sudden urge to go out and check the mail here at our Preston home.  It was a warmish day, short sleeve weather in late winter.  The timing was perfect.  I started out the front door, the mail lady was pulling into our drive way.  Warm and cheery, she handed me a brown box, which turned out to be our total mail for the day.  One brown box, nothing else.

Coffee

Disclaimer:  I know you don't all like coffee.  So for those of you that are not coffee drinkers, think about what I am writing in light of any hot beverage or soup that you may enjoy.

The Day Moon

The morning here is bright.  The sky is clear.  The air is a little crisp, but I can still smell the fragrance of a early Spring-like day.  And just before the I saw the shinning of the sun, while the sky was already light blue, there was the half moon shinning as well.  I am always amazed at this sight, not something I see every day.  Seems atmospheric conditions have to be just right, as well as astronomic conditions.

The Sun is Shinning

I am sitting in a comfortable chair, and the sun is shinning on me.  It is warm, bright, encouraging, renewing, and did I say bright?  It has been a while since I sat in the sun like this.  I am enjoying it, and it promises that today it will actually warm up outside.  So I will being going out there to clean some winter messes up that have been left undone for a while.  Branches mostly, from the winter wind storms.

The Need for Change!

Today lets have some fun. Though some of us may not see this as fun, and least it is a fun approach to what can be very serious hindrances in our lives:  The Need of Change, and not being able to find the changes we need. I certainly need to see some things change in me and around me, how about you?

Spring yesterday, Snow today....What?

So it is transition time between seasons here in New England, as it is in many other places in the Northern Hemisphere.  Some of us are earlier and some of us are later in this depending on where we are.  I know, for instance, winter still has a major grip in the North Country, while spring is in full swing in other places (like Oak Harbor, Washington)   But we are here, and have to go through what is here to get into the Spring we so long to see.

Blank?

Is it OK to be blank?  Have you ever been blank?  Contrary to a fear that this might be a bad thing, I am thinking today that it could be a really good thing if we sort it out right.
